Privacy Policy
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy describes how Rize Software LLC, a New York limited liability company ("Rize Software", "we", "us", or "our"), handles information in connection with the Robin mobile application ("Robin" or the "App"). Robin is an unofficial reader for the Archive of Our Own ("AO3") and is not affiliated with or endorsed by AO3 or the Organization for Transformative Works ("OTW").
2. Summary
Robin is designed to work without collecting personal information. The App stores your reading data on your device, communicates directly with AO3 on your behalf, and contains no analytics, advertising, or tracking. We receive information only if you choose to send us feedback, as described in Section 6.
3. Information stored on your device
To provide its features, the App stores the following information locally on your device. This information is not transmitted to us, and we have no access to it:
- Works you have opened or downloaded, for offline reading
- Reading progress and in-app reading history
- Recent searches and saved filters
- Tags associated with works you read, used solely to provide suggestions within the App
- App preferences, such as text size
This information is deleted when you delete the App from your device.
4. Your AO3 account
Logging in to AO3 is optional. If you log in, you do so on AO3's own login page, displayed within the App. Robin does not access, collect, or store your AO3 password. After you log in, the App stores the session credentials issued by AO3, your AO3 username, and the address of your AO3 profile icon in your device's Keychain, a secure storage area provided by Apple. The App uses this session solely to retrieve your AO3 content and to perform actions you request, such as leaving kudos. This information is not transmitted to us. Logging out of the App deletes the stored session.
5. Network connections
AO3. The App retrieves content directly from AO3 (archiveofourown.org) over your device's internet connection. These requests are sent from your device to AO3 and do not pass through our servers. AO3 and its service providers receive these requests, including your IP address, in the same manner as requests from a web browser. AO3's handling of that information is governed by the AO3 Privacy Policy.
Robin configuration. The App periodically retrieves a configuration file from our website, which is hosted by Cloudflare, Inc. As with any website request, Cloudflare may process your IP address to deliver the file and protect its services. We do not use this information to identify you.
6. Information you choose to send us
If you submit feedback, a bug report, or a feature request through the App, we receive: the content of your message; the category you select; your email address, if you choose to provide one; and the version numbers of the App and of iOS or iPadOS on your device. This information is sent only when you choose to submit it. The App does not attach your AO3 username or session to feedback.
We use this information only to respond to you and to maintain and improve the App. Feedback is transmitted through Cloudflare and delivered to a workspace we use for internal communication (Slack). We do not use it for marketing, and we do not sell or share it.
7. Donations
Donations are optional, processed entirely by Apple through the App Store, and do not unlock features. We do not receive your name, payment details, or other personal information from these transactions. Apple provides us with aggregated sales information only.
8. Diagnostics provided by Apple
If you have enabled sharing of analytics with app developers in your device's settings, Apple may provide us with crash reports and related diagnostics that do not identify you. You can change this setting under Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.
9. Legal bases for processing
Where data protection laws such as the EU or UK General Data Protection Regulation apply, we process the information described in Section 6 on the basis of your consent, given when you choose to submit it, and our legitimate interest in responding to you and improving the App.
10. Retention
We retain feedback for as long as needed to respond to it and address the issue raised, and in any case no longer than 24 months, after which it is deleted. You may ask us to delete it sooner at any time (see Section 14).
11. Disclosure
We do not sell, rent, or share personal information. We may disclose information we hold only where required by law, such as in response to a valid legal order.
12. Security
AO3 session credentials are stored in the device Keychain. Network connections made by the App are encrypted using HTTPS. Access to feedback we receive is limited to the people who maintain the App. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we use reasonable measures to protect the information we handle.
13. International users
Rize Software is based in the United States. If you send us feedback from outside the United States, it will be transferred to and processed in the United States by us and the service providers described in Section 6.
14. Your rights
Because the App stores your reading data on your device, you can delete it at any time by logging out or deleting the App. For information you have sent us, you may request access, correction, or deletion by contacting us at the address below. We will respond to such requests regardless of where you live, and within the time required by applicable law.
California residents. We do not sell or share personal information, as those terms are defined in the California Consumer Privacy Act, and we do not use personal information for targeted advertising.
15. Children
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. AO3 requires its users to be at least 13 years old. If you believe a child under 13 has sent us information, please contact us and we will delete it.
16. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post any changes on this page and update the effective date above. If a change materially affects the information the App collects, we will provide notice within the App before the change takes effect.
